Canadian Whisky

Canadian whisky is a versatile grain spirit, traditionally known for its smooth, easy-drinking character. While often referred to simply as "rye," it is actually crafted from a blend of grains including corn, wheat, barley, and rye. These grains are typically distilled separately before being aged in wooden barrels for at least three years and then masterfully blended. This process creates a spirit that ranges from light and sweet with notes of vanilla and caramel, to spicy, robust, and complex.

When choosing a bottle, look at the label for clues about the style. A high-rye content promises a bolder, spicier kick, while "100% rye" offers an intense, peppery profile. Whiskies with age statements or those finished in unique casks, like sherry or cognac, bring deeper layers of dried fruit and oak. Exceptionally mixable, Canadian whisky is the classic foundation for a Manhattan or a simple rye and ginger. It is also enjoyable sipped neat or over ice alongside rich cheeses, cured meats, or dark chocolate.
