Japanese whisky is heavily inspired by Scotch tradition, utilizing similar copper pot stills and double-distillation methods. However, Japanese distillers have forged their own path, creating spirits known for their exceptional balance, clarity, and elegance. Flavors range from delicate, floral, and honeyed notes in light blends to rich, smoky, and peaty profiles in single malts. The defining characteristic is often a clean, precise finish.

When choosing a bottle, look for the distinction between 'single malt' (from a single distillery) and 'blended' whisky. Some labels also feature unique cask finishes, like native Mizunara oak, which imparts a distinct sandalwood aroma. These whiskies are incredibly versatile. Enjoy them neat or with a splash of water to open up the aromas, or try them the Japanese way: in a refreshing highball with sparkling water and ice, which pairs beautifully with savory food.
