White Whiskey/Moonshine

White whiskey, often called moonshine, is simply whiskey that has not spent time aging in charred oak barrels. Without the wood to turn it amber and add vanilla notes, you get the raw, energetic flavor of the grains themselves. Depending on the recipe, you might taste the sweet, earthy punch of corn, the spicy kick of rye, or the soft sweetness of wheat and barley.

When choosing a bottle, check the label for the grain bill. Corn-heavy spirits offer a traditional, slightly sweet moonshine profile, while malted barley options lean closer to unaged scotch. Look for "100% neutral spirits" if you want something ultra-clean, or "whiskey" for more robust grain character. It is incredibly versatile: swap it into a whiskey sour for a bright, rustic twist, or use it instead of vodka in a bloody mary for an extra layer of savory flavor.
