Dessert & Fortified Wine

Dessert and fortified wines are richer, often sweeter styles designed to be sipped and savoured. While dessert wines get their sweetness naturally from concentrated grape sugars, fortified wines like Port, Sherry, and Madeira have a small amount of grape spirit added during making. This process stops fermentation early to keep the natural sweetness, while also boosting the alcohol content and creating incredibly complex flavours.

To choose the right bottle, look at the style on the label. If you want something luscious and honeyed to pair with fruit tarts or blue cheese, look for "late harvest" or "botrytised" wines. For something nutty, warming, and robust to enjoy alongside dark chocolate or as a nightcap, opt for a tawny Port or an Oloroso Sherry. These wines keep much longer than standard bottles once opened, making them perfect for keeping on hand to pour by the glass.
