White Wine

White wine is made from the fermented juice of grapes, usually green- or yellow-skinned varieties, though some are made by quickly pressing dark grapes and removing the skins. The flavor spectrum is incredibly broad. You can expect anything from bone-dry, crisp, and zesty styles with notes of green apple and citrus, to rich, full-bodied wines boasting flavors of ripe stone fruit, vanilla, and butter.

When choosing a bottle, the label offers great clues. If you want something light and refreshing, look for cool-climate regions or grape varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. For a richer, weightier style, look for Chardonnay, particularly those aged in oak barrels. White wine is highly versatile; lighter styles are perfect as an aperitif or alongside fresh seafood and salads, while fuller-bodied whites pair beautifully with roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, or soft cheeses. Serve them chilled to bring out their vibrant aromas.
