The story behind it
Founded in 1935 by Count Gaetano Marzotto, Santa Margherita was named in honor of his beloved wife, Margherita. The estate focused on reclaiming abandoned land in the Veneto region, creating a state-of-the-art agricultural hub that eventually introduced the world's most famous Pinot Grigio.
Pioneered in 1961 by Count Gaetano Marzotto, Santa Margherita revolutionized the wine world by vinifying Pinot Grigio grapes as a white wine rather than a rosé. By sourcing grapes from the cool-climate, high-altitude hills of the Adige River Valley, they established an entirely new style of dry Italian white wine.
