Double IPA

Double IPAs, also known as Imperial IPAs, take the classic India Pale Ale and turn up the volume. By using more malt and a massive amount of hops, brewers create a stronger, more intense beer. Expect bold, punchy flavors ranging from pine and resin to bright tropical fruit, citrus, and stone fruit. They are typically fuller-bodied than standard IPAs, with a noticeable alcohol warmth and a lingering, complex bitterness.

When choosing a bottle, look at the hop varieties listed on the label. Citra and Mosaic lean toward juicy fruitiness, while Centennial or Chinook bring classic pine and grapefruit. Pay attention to the packaging date too; these hop-forward beers are best enjoyed as fresh as possible. Their robust character makes them excellent companions for rich, spicy dishes, sharp blue cheeses, or hearty grilled meats.
