Flavored Malt Beverage

Flavored malt beverages, often called FMBs, are brewed from a malt base similar to beer, but the beer taste is filtered out to create a clean canvas. This neutral base is then blended with natural or artificial flavorings and sweeteners. They span a massive spectrum of tastes, ranging from classic hard lemonades and iced teas to rich, fruity punches and nostalgic soda flavors. The biggest variable across the category is sweetness; some are crisp and tart, while others are bold and sugary.

When choosing a flavored malt beverage, check the label for the alcohol by volume (ABV) and the sweetener type. Lower-ABV options (around 4% to 5%) are incredibly easy-drinking and perfect for casual backyard barbecues, beach days, or tailgates. Higher-ABV versions (8% or more) offer a more intense flavor profile. Because they are pre-mixed and highly refreshing, they pair beautifully with salty party snacks, spicy wings, or grilled burgers straight off the grate.
