Red Wine

Red wine is made by fermenting dark-skinned grapes with their skins left on, which gives the wine its rich colour, complex flavours, and structure. Across the category, you will find a massive spectrum of styles. Light-bodied reds, like Pinot Noir, tend to be bright, fresh, and packed with red berry flavours. At the other end, full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah are deep, robust, and offer dark fruit notes alongside a drying sensation known as tannins.

When choosing a bottle, look at the grape variety and the region on the label. Cooler climates generally produce lighter, more elegant wines, while warmer regions yield richer, higher-alcohol bottles. If you are pairing with food, lighter reds go beautifully with roasted chicken or salmon, while bolder, tannic reds are the perfect match for steak, hearty stews, or hard cheeses. Of course, many are just as enjoyable on their own by the fire.
