IPA

India Pale Ale, or IPA, is a hop-forward style of ale that has become the cornerstone of the craft beer movement. Originally brewed with extra hops to survive the long sea voyage from England to India, modern IPAs are all about showcasing the incredible range of hop flavours. Depending on the variety used, you can expect anything from intense pine and resinous bitterness to vibrant tropical fruit, citrus, and stone fruit aromas.

When choosing an IPA, look at the style sub-type on the label. West Coast IPAs tend to be clear, crisp, and assertively bitter. East Coast or New England IPAs (NEIPAs) are hazy, smooth, and burst with juicy, fruit-forward flavours with very little bitterness. If you want something stronger, Double IPAs pack a punch. These beers are fantastic on their own, but their bold profiles also make them a perfect match for spicy curries, fire-grilled burgers, or strong cheeses.
