Pale Ale

Pale ale is the ultimate all-rounder of the beer world. Originally named to distinguish it from darker porters and stouts, it is a hop-forward beer that balances bright, fruity flavours with a clean, bitter finish. The taste varies wildly depending on the hops used. Traditional English pale ales tend to be earthy, herbal, and a little malty, while modern American and Pacific styles burst with tropical fruit, citrus, and pine.

When choosing a bottle, look at the alcohol volume and the hop varieties listed on the label. Lower-strength options (often called session pales) offer easy drinking, while stronger versions deliver a more intense punch. If you see words like "dry-hopped" or "unfiltered," expect a bigger aroma and a slightly hazy appearance. Pale ales are incredibly food-friendly, cutting through the richness of burgers, spicy curries, or sharp cheddar cheese.
