Founded by Guillermo Erickson Sauza in 2005, Fortaleza revives the traditional, ancestral methods of tequila production that his great-great-grandfather pioneered in Jalisco. Located in the town of Tequila, the estate honors the family legacy by refusing modern shortcuts like diffusers and autoclaves, creating one of the most respected brands in the world.
Fortaleza is produced at the historic Destilería La Fortaleza, where agave piñas are slowly cooked in brick ovens and crushed using a traditional stone tahona wheel. The tequila is then fermented in open wooden vats before being double-distilled in copper pot stills and aged for 18 months in American oak barrels.
