Scotch

Scotch is malt or grain whisky made entirely in Scotland and aged in oak casks for at least three years. The flavours vary immensely depending on where and how it was made. You might find light, grassy, and floral notes from Lowland distilleries, rich dried-fruit sweetness from Speyside, or intense, smoky peat flavours from the Islay coastal regions.

When choosing a bottle, look at the label for 'single malt' (whisky from one distillery) or 'blended' (a smooth mix from several). An age statement tells you the youngest whisky in the bottle, but younger spirits can be just as vibrant as older, more complex ones. Enjoy it neat, with a splash of water to open up the aromas, or alongside rich foods like blue cheese and dark chocolate.
