Basil Hayden was introduced in 1992 by Booker Noe, grandson of Jim Beam, as part of the pioneering Small Batch Bourbon Collection. The brand was created to honor the historic legacy of Basil Hayden Sr., a 18th-century distiller who bucked tradition by adding a high percentage of rye to his corn mash bill. Today, the brand remains celebrated for its signature smooth, rye-forward profile and innovative barrel finishes.
Crafted at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont, Kentucky, this expression utilizes the legendary high-rye mash bill created by Master Distiller Basil Hayden Sr. in 1796. The distilled spirit is aged in charred new American oak barrels before undergoing a secondary maturation in select California red wine casks.
