Founded by David Simpson on the shores of Loch Indaal, Bowmore has preserved traditional floor malting techniques for over two centuries. The distillery combines Islay's local peat-fueled kiln drying with maturation in hand-selected Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
Bowmore was established in 1779, making it the oldest licensed distillery on Islay and one of the oldest in all of Scotland. Its legendary No. 1 Vaults, a stone warehouse resting below sea level, provides the perfect damp, cool environment for slow maturation.
