The Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid on a plateau above the River Spey in northeast Scotland. The distillery is globally renowned for its obsessive focus on wood quality, sourcing bespoke European and American oak casks that are seasoned with sherry in Spain before traveling to the Speyside dunnage warehouses.
Founded in 1824 overlooking the River Spey, the iconic Macallan estate is famous for its uniquely small copper pot stills which produce an exceptionally rich new-make spirit. This concentrated spirit is then aged exclusively in oloroso sherry-seasoned oak casks to impart its natural golden color and deep fruit character.
