John Smith, a legendary figure in Scotch whisky history who previously managed Macallan and Glenlivet, built Cragganmore to showcase the ultimate Speyside style. Located near the Strathspey railway line to easily transport his premium casks, the distillery remains an iconic stop on the Speyside trail, selected by Diageo as the Speyside representative in their Classic Malts range.
The Cragganmore distillery & rickhouse was founded in 1869 by John Smith on the banks of the River Spey. It is famous for its unique flat-topped spirit stills, which were designed to promote maximum reflux and create a highly complex, heavy spirit style.
