Alexandre Le Grand rediscovered the secret monastic recipe in Normandy, France, in 1863 and began producing the liqueur under the D.O.M. designation, which stands for 'Deo Optimo Maximo' (To God, most good, most great). The historic Palais Bénédictine in Fécamp remains the sole production estate, continuing centuries of herbal blending expertise.
Originally developed in 1510 by the Benedictine monk Dom Bernardo Vincelli at the Abbey of Fécamp. The recipe was lost during the French Revolution but rediscovered in 1863 by Alexandre Le Grand, who built the flamboyant Palais Bénédictine distillery to house its production.
