Founded by John Smithwick in 1710, the brewery was established on the grounds of a Franciscan monastery. For over 300 years, this landmark Irish brand has defined the classic Irish Red Ale style through generations of master brewers.
Smithwick's is brewed at the historic St. Francis Abbey Brewery in Kilkenny, where brewing traditions date back to the 14th century. The signature red color comes from the expert use of a portion of roasted barley alongside pale malt in the brewhouse.
