The story behind it
Founded by Jacob Best in 1844 as the Empire Brewery, the company was later taken over by Captain Frederick Pabst. Today, PBR remains one of the most iconic and celebrated American heritage beer brands in the world.
First brewed in Milwaukee in 1844, this historic lager became famous after winning America's Best in the 1893 World's Fair. Brewers subsequently began tying blue silk ribbons around the bottles to signify its premium status.
