The story behind it
Founded in Boston in 1986 by Rich Doyle, Dan Kenary, and George Ligeti, Harpoon Brewery secured Massachusetts brewing permit number one. Driven by a mission to bring craft brewing options to the East Coast, the brewery transitioned to an employee-owned business model (ESOP) in 2014, ensuring its independent legacy.
Harpoon IPA was first brewed in 1993 at the company's Boston waterfront brewhouse. This flagship ale helped pioneer the New England craft beer movement by introducing local beer lovers to the floral, citrusy character of Pacific Northwest hops.
