Founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat and his wife in Steenhuffel, Belgium, the family-run brewery has remained at the forefront of Belgian brewing excellence for generations. In the 1920s, Albert Moortgat selected a specific Scottish yeast strain during a travels to the UK, which remains the vital heart of Duvel's signature flavour profile today.
First brewed in the 1920s to celebrate the end of World War I, this classic ale was originally named Victory Ale before being described as a true devil of a beer. Brewed by Duvel Moortgat, it undergoes a meticulous 90-day production process that includes unique bottle-conditioning and secondary fermentation.
