Founded by Thomas E. Bulleit Jr. in 1987, the brand was created to revive an old family bourbon recipe developed by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit in the 1830s. Augustus disappeared while transporting his whiskey, but his legacy lives on through this high-rye signature mash bill.
Distilled and aged at the Bulleit Distilling Co. in Kentucky, this whiskey utilizes a recipe that favors a remarkably high-rye content. The aging process takes place in charred American white oak barrels to extract deep wood sugars and spice.
