Brewmaster Josef Groll combined pale malts with local Saaz hops and soft Plzeň water in 1842 to create the golden beer we know today. The brewery continues to use traditional copper kettles and triple-decoction mashing to maintain its historic flavor profile.
Born in Plzeň in 1842, Pilsner Urquell is the world's very first pale lager, forever changing how the world brews. It is still crafted in the same brewery utilizing local Czech ingredients, including Saaz hops and soft Bohemian water.
