The maker
WD-40 was created in 1953 by the Rocket Chemical Company in San Diego, California, on their 40th attempt to formulate a water displacement formula. Originally designed to protect the outer skin of the Atlas Missile from rust, the multi-use formula was soon packaged in aerosol cans for consumer use.
