The story behind it
Founded in Chicago in 1988 by John Hall, Goose Island Beer Company pioneered craft brewing in the Midwest. The brewery introduced the revolutionary Bourbon County Stout series in 1992, creating the world's first bourbon barrel-aged beer.
First brewed in 2013 as Backyard Rye, this recipe returns to the Goose Island brewhouse using freshly emptied bourbon casks to age the imperial stout base. Hand-selected berries are introduced during the finishing stage to impart a vibrant berry character.
