The story behind it
The maker
First introduced in 1951, the brand was originally called Black Label, but master distiller Jack Napier renamed it Black Velvet after tasting the first exceptionally smooth batch. Today, it remains one of the best-selling Canadian whiskies in the world, celebrated for its approachable character and historic legacy.
How it is made
Black Velvet was originally produced in Valleyfield, Quebec, before distillation moved to the historic Black Velvet Distillery in Lethbridge, Alberta. The whisky is crafted using pure prairie rye, barley, and corn, then blended and aged in oak barrels to develop its hallmark smoothness.
