Jim Koch founded the Boston Beer Company in 1984 in his kitchen, using his great-great-grandfather’s recipe for Louis Koch Lager. This beer, rebranded as Samuel Adams Boston Lager, helped catalyze the American craft beer revolution and remains a symbol of independent brewing.
Brewed by the Boston Beer Company, this flagship lager revived a historic family recipe from the mid-1800s using classic decoction mashing. The process employs German Noble hops, Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Tettnang Tettnanger, to achieve its signature herbal complexity.
