The maker
Founded by Guillermo Erickson Sauza in 1999, Tequila Fortaleza was created to revive the traditional, centuries-old production methods of his legendary ancestors. Reopening the family's old distillery, Guillermo chose to prioritize authenticity and labor-intensive processes over modern industrial efficiency.
How it is made
Produced at the historic Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Jalisco, utilizing traditional artisanal methods. The agave pias are slowly crushed using a massive stone tahona wheel before natural fermentation in open-air wood tanks and double distillation in copper pots.
