Anchor Brewing Company, established in 1896 in San Francisco, is widely recognized as America's first modern craft brewery. Saved from closure in 1965 by Fritz Maytag, the brewery pioneered the craft beer revolution with historic revivals like Steam Beer and early American IPAs.
